Growth effects of Rhizobium inoculation in some legume plants

چکیده

Leguminous crops, possessing root nodules, fix and utilize atmospheric nitrogen. They are thus not dependent on industrially fixed nitrogen but add up to 30 kg of nitrogen / hectare to the soil and improve its fertility. Access to mineral nitrogen often limits plant growth, and so symbiotic relationships have evolved between plants and a variety of nitrogen-fixing organisms. These associations are responsible for reducing 120 million tons of atmospheric nitrogen to ammonia each year. In agriculture, independence from nitrogenous fertilizers expands crop production and minimizes pollution of water tables, lakes and rivers. Two kinds of pulses, Vigna mungo and Vigna radiata were taken for this study to find out the impact of artificial inoculation of Rhizobium japonicum with charcoal carrier on the production of grains over the non inoculated one. The results show that in both V. mungo and V. radiata varieties studied, the inoculated plants possessed greater height, greater fresh weight, greater number of roots, nodules, greater number of leaves, shoots, pods, greater length of pods, greater seed weight, over their respective controls. The percentage increase in all these parameters was statistically significant. Hence it is concluded that the commercial inocula of Rhizobium with charcoal used by as in seed inoculation of the pulses namely Vigna mungo (Linn.) Hepper. T-9 variety and Vigna radiata (Linn.) Wilzek S8 variety has resulted in significant increases in growth and yield potential over the respective non inoculated control plants.

Influence of Air SO2 Pollution on Antioxidant Systems of Alfalfa Inoculated with Rhizobium.

Air pollution is the most important environmental problem of last century that threatens the health of living organisms, especially plants. SO2 is one of the main air pollutants that can cause to imbalance in growth and physiological function of plant in high concentrations. Symbiosis of Rhizobium bacteria with alfalfa can cause increasing plant growth and plant resistance to abiotic stresses. ...

Effect of Rhizobium trifolii, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Azotobacter chroococcum on Growth and Yield of Crismon Clover and Rice in a Rice-Clover Rotation

Cultivation of legume species as the second crop in rotation with rice and using plant growth promoting bacteria can be a good approach to improve rice production sustainability. This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of plant growth promoting bacteria on accelerating vegetative growth of crimson clover (Alborz 1) and rice (Hashemi) yield in a rice-based cropping system. A facto...

Co-existence of Rhizobia and Diverse Non-rhizobial Bacteria in the Rhizosphere and Nodules of Dalbergia odorifera Seedlings Inoculated with Bradyrhizobium elkanii, Rhizobium multihospitium–Like and Burkholderia pyrrocinia–Like Strains

Rhizobia induce root nodules and fix atmospheric N2 for most legume species in exchange for carbon. However, the diverse endophytic non-rhizobial bacteria in legume nodules that co-exist with rhizobia are often ignored because they are difficult to cultivate using routine cultivation approaches. To enhance our understanding of the incidence and diversity of legume-bacteria associations, a high-...

Abstract: Sulphur dioxide (SO2) is one of the main air pollutants that can cause imbalance in growth and physiological function of plant in high concentrations. Rhizobium-plant symbiosis can cause increasing in plant resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses in addition to increase growth of plant. In this study, effects of Rhizobium (native and standard strains) on leaf anatomical parameter...
